Ahhh...Sweet Smell of Summer Air and Asfalt

Oh, it's that time of year again--construction season. Makes summers in Nova Scotia entertaining. Long waits in traffic, going different route to avoid the construction-only to find out that it doesn't matter...there is construction on that street too. Oh well, it kind of makes you slow down and enjoy the summer air and the eclectic musicmix of CBC Radio2.

So, recently I have become a listener of Radio 2. And by listener I mean that its the only radio station on in the car. Bob in the morning plays some great tunes, while Rich on the drive home tells great stories behind great tunes. Listening to this station has definitely expanded my music library. And my knowledge! It is truly a great radio station--well except between 9-1 when its classical time--unless you're into it, then its probably great too.

I have been reading up on my feminist literature in preparation for my schooling in the fall and it has caused me to analyze everything in everyday life. Even watching the last season of 8 Simple Rules (sadly, without John Ritter), is exercising my feminist brain. It's amazing to think that there are so many ways that women are treated second to men or as objects in everyday life. Not to mention that these things disadvantage women making life harder for them but easier for men. I am not slandering men here, at all (because I love men....well my man anyway!), I just mean that if the world, not just government and people of power (because they are usually men or under patriarchal rule), stopped and thought about all the ways that women are mistreated, I think that things would change. There would be more women in positions of power, equal pay and opportunity in the work place, more choice for women regarding their bodies, as well as more recognition for those who work in the home (one of the toughest and definitely most under appreciated jobs). I mean really we all (including men) have to step back and at least acknowledge these things then think about change. ON a lighter note--women are making great strides on a daily basis to defy the stereotypes. :):)

Well since I have to go make the bacon, I will leave you with some interesting things to check out:

Movies: Away We Go
Songs: End times by Library Voices
Books: Treasure Island
